Success Stories
Project description
NCS Multistage, together with Aker BP and Alliance partners, has completed a record-setting offshore well in the Valhall field.
The completion featured NCS Multicycle™ Frac Sleeves and an NCS Frac-through-coil Isolation Assembly (FIA).
The team determined that a conventional frac was not possible due to challenges with the upper completion and decided to stimulate the well using a frac-through-coil approach.
A total of nine Shift Frac Close™ stages were completed in fourteen days (including weather delays), with an average proppant placement of 382,000 lbs/stage, setting the following records:
- New offshore frac-through-coil speed record: 4 stages completed in 34 hours
- New single stage proppant-through-coil record: 510,000 lbs placed
- New total proppant-through-coil record: 3,450,000 lbs
- New total coil length record: 7453 m
In total, nearly 3.5M lbs of proppant were successfully placed into nine stages at an average rate of 10.7 bbls/min, with a top proppant concentration of 8 PPA (957 kg/m3).
Each frac was underdisplaced to the sand face, followed by cleanout, sleeve closure, and pressure test to confirm successful Shift Frac Close™ completion.
The last four stages placed a total of 1.9M lbs of proppant in 34hrs, from the time the sixth MultiCycle™ Frac Sleeve was opened to the time the ninth stage was closed.
NCS Multistage, as an Aker BP D&W key strategic partner, aims to surpass these and other records through a collective commitment to continuous improvement.
